Christopher and I dated long distance our whole relationship. He would drive down to La Verne, or I would fly up to Utah to visit him. He was in school and working for the 2002 Olympics that were happening in SLC and I was going to community college and working at the Hampton Inn in West Covina. Sometimes it was just more convenient to use my hotel employee rate and meet halfway-ish in Las Vegas.
On one of my visits up to Utah we had gone ring shopping and picked out a ring. On this trip to Las Vegas Christopher brought it with him so I could try it on and make sure it fit. Before my family got into town I tried it on and wore it all around. I loved how it looked on my hand and it was so sparkly! I wore it to a concert we went to and all day on my birthday. No, we weren't engaged, but it was really fun to pretend. I knew it was coming, we had talked about it, but Christopher wanted to ask my Dad's permission first.
On our last morning there we were walking around the casinos and Christopher asked my Dad for permission to marry me while I was using the bathroom. My dad said something like, 'are you going to graduate?'. Christopher said yes and I guess that was all my Dad needed to know. While the whole family was in my parents room at the Bellagio packing up to check out he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes!
We checked out, walked around Vegas for a bit, then went out to dinner with everyone to celebrate before Christopher headed north, and everyone else headed south.
